Two years ago I had sever migraines. My clueless family dr sent me to two different neurologist who just wanted to stuff medication down me to control them. No one was interested in finding out what was causing them. They were so bad that they would last anywhere from 3 - 5 days. I had problems with slurred speech, short term memory loss, I was agitated ALL the time so my temper was an issue. I was dizzy and suffered from nausea and my vision would flicker almost like a candle flame - which one neurologist said it was from the migraines. Back in the beginning of 1998 I was diagnosed with Graves disease and had most of my thyroid removed. Dr Clueless did not have that in his notes for my history and actually didn't want to send me to the specialist who diagnosed me with Graves. He insisted that my levels were fine and I didn't need medication. I put up a fight and got the referral, and in the past 8 months since I first saw Dr.K, I have had my thyroid medication upped twice and Dr.K refereed me to a Rheumatoid specialist that has put me on medication for Fibromyalgia and said I may have early onset of osteoarthritis. Since seeing the two specialist, the majority of my problems have gone away. I still get a migraine two or three days a month, but it only lasts for a couple of hours, at the most a day.
I complained for five years to Dr Clueless about pain in my hip. The most he did was refer me to a chiropractor that shared his office who took had x-rays taken that showed nothing, so I was told to take anti inflammatory meds like Tylenol to manage the pain. I went and finally saw a different doctor at a different practice, Dr. Awesome! who sent me for a MRI which showed I had a torn labrum (the lining of the hip joint). When I had surgery to fix it this past May, I found out it was torn the whole way around. Since the surgery I have been about 89% pain free. I can lay on my back, which I wasn't able to do at all, and I can lay on my left side for an extended period of time before I get sore. So for me the surgery was a success.
About four years ago, I had severed my ACL in my left knee and tore my minisucs. How? I told the surgeon that I got out of bed and went "Ouch! That hurt!" He thinks it was an old injury that didn't bother me and I aggravatied it getting out of bed. So now I have a zombie knee and for the most part, it feels pretty good. Not that I will ever be able to run. The good news is, if I ever get cut up into pieces and my body parts are found, I will be easily identified because of all the serial numbered parts that have been put in me.
I just saw Dr. Awesome! yesterday because my right knee has been bothering me for the past four months. It's so stiff that if it's been bent for a period of time and I try and straighten it, there is so much pain that it makes me want to cry. I already got the x-ray results back that shows degeneration of the knee. So now I am waiting for the phone call to schedule the MRI. Dr. Awesome! doesn't like the fact that I have already had 3 surgeries on this knee for torn minisucs'.
I am still trying to find some connection between Fybro and what is causing the destruction of my joints. I know osteoarthritis would cause the degeneration of the joints, but what about all of the tears? 5 of my 9 surgeries have been because of a torn something or other. But all the dr's I've asked don't have any answers. And it's not like I'm all that active. The most I do now is dance in my living room to Dance Central, and if I walk it's on a paved path.
